How ATP & WTA Rankings Work

The ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals) and WTA (Women's Tennis Association) world rankings operate on a cumulative 52-week rolling points system. Players earn points based on the tournament category (Grand Slams: 2000 pts, Masters 1000: 1000 pts, ATP 500: 500 pts, ATP 250: 250 pts) and the furthest round reached.

Points drop off exactly one year after being earned, meaning players must defend or surpass their results to preserve their ranking position.

Race to the ATP & WTA Finals

While the official world rankings measure a 52-week rolling period, the Race to the Finals counts only points earned during the active calendar year.

The top 8 qualified singles players at the end of the regular season punch their ticket to the prestigious year-end championships: the Nitto ATP Finals in Turin and the WTA Finals in Riyadh.
